RECONSTRUCTION OF THE PROJECTED IMAGE (2018-2026)

Experimentation and testing the boundaries of the known and the visible are central to my artistic practice. In 2018, my strong interest in light led me to experimental photography. The project “Reconstruction of the Projected Image” (2018-25) encompasses installation and a series of multimedia works (still images and video made with a handmade camera obscura and customised apertures with different shapes and sizes). Through the experimentation of the possibilities specific to this simple device, I investigate the everyday glitches of vision and perception. Whereas, by taking photographs with a word-shaped aperture, I poetically emphasise that words, thoughts, and definitions affect our perception of the visible. The experience of observing movement, rather than focusing on still images, is what I am most interested in. The result is a collection of moving images out of focus. Distorted scenes where light and colour flow, and explore the scene. The change of apertures allows my works to alter our perception by defining new fields of view, gifting the observer with the experience of the everyday from an unusual perspective.

The project was rewarded with invitations to participate in exhibitions, feature in publications and was awarded with the AIR programme at the (CSF) Adams- Centre for Experimental Photography, Adams, Rome, IT.
